“Kodakara No Yu (Hot Spring of Fertility)” is the subject of stories relating to Lord Hideyoshi,
Nagahama Taiko Onsen is a ferruginous hot spring rising on the old site of Nagahama Castle and has brownish-red colored hot water.  This hot spring is noted for one’s feeling of prolonged warmness after the bath and is good for feminine problems, neuralgia, rheumatism, and infertility.  Lord Hideyoshi had his first child after moving into Nagahama Castle.  This made Nagahama Taiko Onsen known for its fertility and its connection with Lord Hideyoshi.

This is a famous hot spring where Oichi no Kata (Lady Ichi), a younger sister of Nobunaga Oda, visited this onsen for a hot-spring cure.
Sugatani Onsen rises at the foot of Mt. Odani (old site of Odani Castle) and is known as an historical hot spring where Nagamasa Azai and his wife, Lady Ichi visited for hot-spring cures.  The water has hydro carbonic acid ferruginous and is good for neuralgia, muscle ache, stiff shoulders, poor circulation, gastro-enteric disorders, atopic dermatitis, recovery from illness, and recovery from fatigue.

25 minutes boat ride will bring you to a treasure island of Momoyama Culture

Chikubu shima is a mysterious island floating in Lake Biwa.  The island has a deep relation with Hideyoshi Toyotomi.  Hougonji ( Hougon temple), known as one of the three temples of great Benzaiten (Sarasvati) of Japan, has Karamon (a Chinese gate) of the Kannon Hall transferred from Gokuraku Mon (Heaven Gate) in Toyokuni (Hideyoshi) Byo (mausoleum). In the main shrine of Tukubusuma Jinja (shrine), there are drawings on the ceilings and paper sliding doors believed to be drawn by Eitoku and Mitsunobu Kanou.  Both of them are designated as national treasures handing down the glamorous and gorgeous Momoyama Culture.

Cruising by boat from the Port of Nagahama, the boat goes through a tunnel formed by 600 cherry trees on the lake bank in Kaizuosaki.  This is a luxury spring in the lake country.  The season for cherry blossoms is from early to mid April.  Snow viewing cruising between Otsu and Nagahama, held during Bonbai Ten (Exhibition of Japanese Apricot Trees in Bonsai Style) also provides attractive a taste of the lake during winter.
